high’s RENT Q&A

English website comes!

· high's RENT
high's rent

Today I met a Japanese who contact me through couchsurfing. He said that the comments on my profile are very interesting. Many hosts said that “Cathy is an interesting and thoughtful person.” “She will broaden your horizons.” “You must ask what she does." Those descriptions aroused his interest, therefore he sent me a message asking if I am available during his stay in Taiwan. And boom! I am going international ?! lol.

This is our first time to see each other, he asked me lots of questions. We exchange our thoughts and ideas. He is very curious about “high’s Rent”, asking the same questions like many other people did.

Q1: Why you want to do “high’s Rent”?

Because there are some friends who choose to end their lives in the past few years. Sometimes I wonder that if there was someone who can accompany them through their hardest time. Would things become different? Maybe it’s my selfishness that I think there is a possibility to change as long as you are still alive. However, it is what it is after you died.

Q2: Do you want to become famous?

Yes and no. Yes, it’s because I want to let more people know that there is someone they can talk to whenever they need help; there is always someone they can lean on. As for the “No”, it’s because I don’t want to get restrained after becoming famous.

Q3: Do you want to make a lot of money?

I am not interested in buying and pursuing fashion. I don’t want to exchange my freedom to make a fortune. That’s the reason why I left my former job from bank.

Q4: What is your ultimate goal of this job?

I wish the resources can be even between the upper class and lower class. Rich people have more capital and I want to share the resources of the world equitably. Share the resources with someone who really need it. People won’t be treated differently just because you are rich or poor.

Q5: What if your friends ask you to go out with them? Does it count as a “Rent” so they have to pay?

It is not because we are not friends therefore you have to pay; if you pay just because you support what I do. Money doesn't define our friendship. Everyone has their own issues, that is the reason why I don’t have a fixed price for any rent. If you are rich, I may charge you more than people who are poor. We can exchange foods, skills, items that I need as well. It is not always about “money”, and I will share what I have with those in need.

Masa: I hope there will be more people like you in Japan. Would it be possible to rent you in Japan for one to two years?

Cathy: Sure. But I cannot speak Japanese. Someone in Japan do the same job, but there are many differences between us. I think everyone can do this job, different people will attract different customers based on your initial motives.

Masa: Maybe next time we will meet again. I would like to know more stories.

Cathy: Sure. See ya.

I still like to chat with people face to face because I can feel the sincerity and honesty from them. He is also an interesting person. And he comes to Taiwan once or twice a month. Although I still cannot understand the details of his job, haha.

We talk about the certificates recognising same-sex unions in Shibuya and Fukuoka. And remind him the LGBT parade in Taiwan if he will come to Taiwan on October.
